Platonic solids are ideal, primal models of crystal patterns

• Octahedron: (6 vertices, 12 edges, 8 faces) represents air

• Dodecahedron: (20 vertices, 30 edges, 12 faces) represents ether (spirit), or in some teachings the whole - the cosmos

• Icosahedron: (12 vertices, 30 edges, 20 faces) represents water

Octahedron:

• The four corners of the pyramid correspond to the four sacred directions

• The two pyramids bring together and join the energy of: above and below; sun and pachamama; female and male, heaven and earth

• The central axis of the rattle corresponds to our inner axis joining heaven and earth

• The central plane (between the upper and lower pyramids) is designed to hold the source of creation - this could be called the energy of sacred love

• The four faces of the pyramids (both upper and lower) hold the aspects of sacred power, sacred knowledge, sacred beauty, and sacred purpose

Dodecahedron:

• The dodecahedron is associated with the divine aspects of life

• It represents the fifth element - ether (universe), and the circulation and decent of energy from spirit
  

• The shape is associated with the connection of the infinite to the finite, the macrocosm to the microcosm

• It is considered a cosmic image of the human soul
