Walkabout Didjeridoos

Walkabout Didjeridoo - Maple and Cedar - Key of E

  • How do you get a 4 foot long didjeridoo into a backpack or briefcase?
    Fold it!

How do you get a small, portable didjeridoo to sound like a "real" didjeridoo?
Design the chamber size, use solid wood, match wood densities, and build it so it is a very stable structure that can handle the wide range of harmonics present in didjeridoo sound.

How do the different woods effect the sound?
The didjes are generally built in two styles:

    1. Hardwood frame (usually maple)with hardwood sides. This style has a rich, warm, powerful sound and complex harmonics. As a analogy you might think of this style as a"luxury car".
    2. Hardwood frame (usually maple)with hardwood on one side and western red cedar on the other. This style has a bright, open, lively sound and complex harmonics. As a analogy you might think of this style as a "sports car".

As with all didjeridoos, the style of playing needs to match the instrument.
